Bermuda triangle by far is the greatest modern mystery of our supposedly well understood world.  But i guess there is no mystery over the fact that how does confidential information about oil &

ags PSUs find its way to the public domain.

It is a shame that in today’s world of cut throat competition where information on crucial decisions made or to be made by a company, if gathered by competitors, could endanger the very existence of even the strongest of companies, the PSU oil and gas companies are facing the challenge of keeping such information confidential.  Mind you, we are talking about companies figuring in the Fortune 500 list with huge profits and sitting on large cash reserves.

Where exactly is this ’leak’ taking place? Is the "mole" within these companies? How is it that websites providing oil & gas industry related information are thriving based on such ’leaks’? They even have the courage and confidence of blatanlty announcing and promising in advance confidential information on oil & gas PSUs.

Even a layman can tell that the "mole" resides in the Ministry where all PSUs, being govt. controlled undertakings, are required to discolse such confidential information to the Ministry either to get approvals or as a measure of compliance.

I disticntly remember one of the ex-petroleum ministers publicly stating that he is also aware of such leaks taking place from his ministry.  Then why are steps not being taken to stop this menace.  It is hurting the oil & gas PSUs. It not only results in erosion of shareholder wealth, which is the public at large, directly, and indirectly through the Govt., but also stiffles the motivation amongst PSU management to perform at optimum levels.

It is hightime that the Govt. recognises this as a genuine concern of oil & gas PSUs and works towards putting an end to this menace.  I would like to be corrected when I say that the oil & gas PSUs themselves are not taking this problem seriously. Therefor there is an urgent need for the ministry and the PSUs to first of recognise this as an important issue and then collaborate and cooperate to stop this disease which is slowly assuming epidemic proportions.
